Universities in Nepal, learning the history of higher education first started in Nepal by the establishment of the first college i.e. Tri-Chandra College in 1918. Tribhuvan College came into function in 1959, which is historical college in Nepal and it was the only university in Nepal until 1985. Early in the 80s, Nepal Government started the concept of a multi-university system and start Mahendra Sanskrit University, which was established in 1986, Kathmandu University in 1990, and Pokhara and Purbanchal Universities in 1995, Pokhara University in 1996.

Tribhuvan University (TU), is the first governmental largest University in Nepal which was established in 1959 (2016 BS). It promote high-level learning University in Nepal. TU has been broadcasted as the Centre University by the Government of Nepal on January 8, 2013, and it has been registered as a non-profit self-governing association. TU presents more than 4400 courses and has more about 600 colleges that are under the affiliation of this university. The faculties offered by TU are Faculty of humanities and social science, Faculty of management, Faculty of Law and Faculty of education.
TU, central office is located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, and it functions all over Nepal through the following there 5 institutes, 4 faculties, and 4 research centers:

It has been forming an intellectual image on educational field with better excellence in educational areas in Eastern Development of Nepal. Purbanchal University has 26,128 Student, include 5 Constituent and 111 Affiliate Campuses with total (116 Campuses).
There are 74 Teacher are working and 296 administrative support staff are working.

Universities in Nepal – Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU)from the sacred birth place of Lord Gautam Buddha,Lumbini,the fountain of World Peace, is an autonomous and public institution of higher learning committed with the mission to educate the People of Nepal and enrich the global learning community through the application of core Buddhist values and promote the World Peace from Nepal.
HISTORY OF THE LUMBINI BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY
The first World Buddhist Summit held in Lumbini from 30th November to 2nd December,1998 organized by Lumbini Development Trust, proposed to establish an International Buddhist University in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, to impart standard education on Buddhist Philosophy, Literature and Culture, etc.. Subsequently the Lumbini Declaration, issued on the concluding day of the Summit, requested the Nepal Government to take immediate action in this direction. Accordingly, Lumbini Development Trust constituted a seven-member Preparatory Committee with Prof. Dr. Tulasi Ram Vaidya as convener and Ven. Sudarshan Mahasthavir, Ven. Ngawang Hoser Lama, Rev. Pt. Badri Ratna Bajracharya, Prof. Mohan Prasad Lohani, Prof. Tri Ratna Manandhar and Mr. Min Bahadur Shakya as members.
The Proposal of establishing Lumbini International Buddhist University was thoroughly discussed in various meetings at different stages to justify the need for establishment of Lumbini International Buddhist University. Eventually a meeting presided over by Hon. Deepa Kumar Upadhyaya, the then Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation formed “Proposed Lumbini International Buddhist University Main Preparatory Committee 2061″ on 3rd Kartik 2061 B.S. with Hon.Bharat Shah, the Member of Parliament as Convener and Prof. Dr. Naresh Man Bajracharya, Expert on subject matter and the then Head of Central Department of Buddhist Studies, Tribhuvan University as Member-Secretary.
Finally, on 14th Marga 2061 B.S. Lumbini Buddhist University was formally established with the promulgation of an Ordinance which was declared on 16th Marga 2061 B.S. at the 2nd World Buddhist Summit held in Lumbini. Subsequently the Main Preparatory Committee meeting held on 23rd Marga 2061 B.S. took six important decisions including renaming of committee as “Lumbini Buddhist University Main Preparatory Committee 2061″ Later in 2062 B.S., the Parliament approved the Ordinance with modifications as Lumbini Bauddha Vishwavidyalaya Ain 2063 (Lumbini Buddhist University Act 2063).
Manmohan Technical University
Universities in Nepal – Manmohan Technical University is the first technical university in Nepal, founded by Koshi Province Government of Nepal. Manmohan Memorial Polytechnic with well facilitated labs, workshops, classrooms and all infrastructure was overtaken by Koshi Province Government of Nepal and transformed into a Technical University. Different from other universities in Nepal, it focuses on producing technical manpower in the field of Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Forestry, Nursing etc. from zeroth level to the highest level. Under the Koshi Province government, the Board of Governers will manage the University. This university aims to open and run constituent colleges through out the Koshi Province of Nepal.
This university is situated in Budhiganga Rural Municipality of Morang district in Koshi Province 1 of Nepal.
Madhesh Agricultural University
Universities in Nepal – The Madhesh Agricultural University (MAU) has been established on 13 th December, 2021 (27 Mansir 2078 BS) at Rajbiraj of Saptari in Madhesh Province of Nepal. This is the first autonomous agricultural university in Madhesh province, established by Madhesh Province Parliament as Madhesh Agricultural University Act 2079 (Province Agricultural University Ordinance 2078)
This university works for basic science research for knowledge generation and development of skilled human resources through education in agriculture sector. The Madhesh Agricultural University is premier institute for higher education, research and extension in the field of agriculture.

Lumbini Technological University
Universities in Nepal – Lumbini Technological University was established on July 2, 2022 (Ashar 18, 2079 BS) by the Act of Province Legislature with the goal of advancing higher education in the field of information technology, engineering, agricultural and forestry, and tourism, among others, with a particular focus on the application and development of technology and innovation. Technology continues to play an increasingly significant role in shaping our world with traditional jobs being replaced by tech-oriented ones, which demands competent professionals. LTU’s mission is to promote and offer comprehensive programs at undergraduate and graduate levels that produce graduates who have both disciplinary expertise and the ability to handle real-world problems by combining theoretical knowledge with practical application along with exposure visits to reputed technological institutions. Madhesh University
Universities in Nepal – Madhesh University in Birganj was formally inaugurated on Wednesday. Upendra Yadav, president of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and former deputy prime minister, inaugurated Madhesh University, which was established by the Madhesh Province government. Speaking at the inauguration program, Janata Samajwadi Party President Yadav said that the seven decades-long dreams of Madhesh has been fulfilled by establishing Madhesh University.
He expressed his belief that upgrading the level of education that is needed in Madhesh, it will contribute significantly to economic, social, and political transformation.
Similarly, Prof. Dr. Deepak Shakya, director of Birgunj Public Campus, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the university. Vice-Chancellor Dr. who proved to be a milestone for the development of higher education in Madhesh by establishing Madhesh University. Shakya expressed his belief.
Madhesh Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut presented him with the appointment letter of the Vice Chancellor in the program. The office of the university has been established in the building of National Trading in Birganj. Preparations are being made to find 100 bighas of land in Parsa and build more structures for the university.
Minister of Social Development of Madhesh Province Government and Dean of Madhesh University Navlakishor Shah presided over the event, Forest and Environment Minister Pradeep Yadav, Chancellor of University and Chief Minister of Madhesh Pradesh Government Lal Babu Raut, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City Rajeshman Singh, leaders of various political parties, intellectuals, security officers and others participated in the program.
